“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
“An ordinary night with ordinary sheep and ordinary shepherds. And were it not for a God who loves to hook an “extra” on the front of the ordinary, the night would have gone unnoticed. The sheep would have been forgotten, and the shepherds would have slept the night away. But God dances among the common. And that night He did a waltz.” Max Lucado

I love Christmas with such a passion. So does my sister. Perhaps our family made it such a wonderful experience for us that it holds so many intensely happy memories. I’m not sure why we seem to be almost giddy about it when so many others we know can take or leave the celebration. We are usually the first to put up our decorations, and our idea of a “perfect” evening during most of October and November is curling up in a comfortable chair, sipping a great cup of coffee, and watching Christmas movies. Personally, I play Christmas music and Christmas movies all year long. And I’ve noticed many times when I’ve felt sad or down or stressed, putting on a Christmas movie or a CD of carols turns the world around for me.
This year I decided to extend my celebration to include the 12 Days of Christmas — not the celebration referred to in the song — but the genuine liturgical Christian celebration of the period from December 25 through Epiphany. During that time, I spent time daily in special devotions and gave a special gift to a different person each day. Although none of my family or friends celebrated it with me, they were all genuinely touched by my gift to them for that special occasion. It extended the enjoyment of Christmas for all of us.
