This week’s WordPress photo challenge is Everyday Life; it’s all about people and the things they do every day.
I quickly snapped this photo through the nursery window as we all jostled in the small space to get pictures of the new little bundle of joy. It’s a scene that is repeated daily as proud parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and other family and friends crowd together at a hospital nursery window to capture their first pictures of the precious new life brought into their family. It’s not everyday life to them to have a new baby, it is indeed a very special occasion. And although the miracle of birth happens thousands of times a day across the world, it is anything but ordinary.
To people who work as a neonatal nurse, like the two women shown in the photo, this is everyday life. It is what they do day after day, or night after night. They have the important responsibility of being the first to care for the tiny newborn, to measure him, weigh him, and to monitor vital signs. With a new birth every 7 seconds in the U.S. alone, that amounts to thousands of neonatal nurses whose everyday life is to care for the tiny, helpless newborns who depend solely upon someone else.
For the newborns, it is their first day of what will be their everyday life for years to come – depending upon someone else to take care of them, provide for them, and keep them safe.

Thank God for all the healthworkers who makes sure we all get well and back on our feet. For taking care of our newborns especially the critical one. What may be everyday life for some looks totally amazing , even heroic in the eyes of others.
